Interruption

warm sands and tropi-
the cat yowls and paws my face
demanding breakfast

morning zoom call-
for the love of god
mute your mic

Freedom

‘neath a festive sky-
cold ashes rain down upon
old lakota land

beneath the stars-
none of us free
unto the last

Damage

another black cloud-
rain runs down my iron skin
leaving trails of rust

acid rain-
too much life
etched in my face

Distance

circling eagles-
nesting on the mountaintop
as Sisyphus weeps

wavering sands-
a desert oasis
just out of reach

Insomnia

staring at the clock
waiting an eternity
for the time to change

my mind’s ear-
wide awake
in the dark

Liar

a postulant soul
emerges from the shadows
selling fools false light

silver tongues-
gilded lies and
tainted truths

Walking

autumn afternoon-
the sound of a cricket lost
amid the tall grass

rotting wood-
silent shadows
of the forest

Rain

staccato drumming-
the evening rain disappears
into the night’s fog

scorched earth-
rain on the tin roof
far too late

Remains

a stone foundation
the remnants of a sawmill
lost to the forest

after the fire-
the chimney casts
a long shadow

Shore

a rotting boardwalk
crosses an estuary
flowing to the sea

low tide-
razor clams
burrow in the mud
