Serenity

a paper lantern
carried aloft on the breeze
lights the evening sky

twilight-
illuminated by
a passing lantern

Together

sitting on the beach
lines trailing off from writing
our names in the sand
Or
warm beach-
our names
in the sand

Introspection

often I frequent
my mind’s darker recesses
to search for solace
Or
in the dark corners
of my mind
seeking peace-

Destiny

Peace is elusive
But a respite from the past
Would suffice for now

Shadows

a shaft of sunlight
pierces the dirty window
and falls to the floor

Paint

the old man’s brushes
with fluid movements coax life
out of the canvas

Drifts

A late spring snowfall
Endless cottonwood tree seeds
Floating through the air

Silence

The night’s slow passage
A stanza in the poem
Of my sleeplessness

Waiting

A tendril of smoke
Rises from her cigarette
As she sits alone

Fall

Autumn’s final leaf
Lets go it’s hold on winter
And portends the spring
