winter silhouettes
a copse of sailboat masts cut
from the dawning sky
Cacophony
past a dark alley
a chorus of feral cats
and toppled trash cans
–
over the car horns
and the shouting-
more sirens
Winter
the new dawn arrives
on the first day of winter
revealing the truth
–
winter dawn-
a landscape of ice
greets the sun
Solstice
in endless circles
the moon dances with the stars
through the solstice night
–
an absent sun-
sleet clatters off
the autumn leaves
Reflection
through endless farmland-
I suddenly see myself
in a passing train
–
ice tinged puddles-
a stranger lingers
in the water
Cityscapes
another el train
rumbles by as I sit in
my open window
–
an ailing fan-
ninety degrees
at two am
Sleet
reemergent sun-
every blade of autumn grass
gleaming cut crystal
–
pewter light-
glazed branches
trap the moon
Ghost
passing a graveyard
the white lady walks alone
between the headstones
–
diaphanous-
her burial shroud
becomes the fog
Consciousness
a coyote’s howl-
I walk out of my own skin
and right into yours
–
afloat-
my body below
an anchor
