Fire

partly melted snow-
embers from the campfire rise
toward the gibbous moon
–
a distant glow-
wood smoke and laughter
carried on the wind

standing by the sink-
I feel the warmth from your feet
on the bathroom floor
–
lost in your dreams-
I silence my alarm
before it wakes you

linens on the line-
warm peals of children’s laughter
waft in on the breeze
–
wicker baskets-
a coffee can of
broken clothespins

the morning commute-
unexpected lavender blossoms
along the roadside
–
traffic-
a glimpse of
an osprey

by a country lane-
a hand lettered wooden sign
farm fresh eggs for sale
–
fresh eggs-
a card table
in the shade

bright mid-winter stars-
your alabaster shoulders
dressed by the ghost moon
–
rumpled sheets-
asleep intertwined
blanketed by the moon

lost amid the clouds-
the afternoon sky whispers
my name to the wind
–
wistfully blue-
dandelions
in your hair

a chorus of birds-
greening trees cast shade across
our secret meadow
–
slating sunlight-
motes of dust
defy gravity

warm morning birdsong-
my love asleep next to me
aglow in the sun
–
robin song-
curtains sway in
the morning breeze

a passing shower-
drops of moonlight patter on
our shared umbrella
–
the taxi gone-
three long flights
to your apartment
