in the forest glen
a dappled fawn lies hidden
in the underbrush

shrouded
cloaked within
our own narrative

living in the past
reaching out for the echoes
of what used to be

wistful
remembering the way
things never were

mocking my attempt to be
at one with nature

meditation
water threading
between my toes

in the full moon’s light
a desert scorpion glows
an unearthly blue

silver
illumination
of midnight

a flash of lighting
tears the fabric of the night
letting in the rain

wet brilliance
slicing through

I drag my feet through
