snowy egrets stand
in the salt marsh, motionless
hunting careless fish
–
cattails
swaying in the
warm salt breeze

unable to sleep
in what used to be our home
Feeling your echo
–
labyrinthine walls
reflecting back
your hollow voice

eroding mountains
pushing back against the wind
resistant to change
–
warm breezes-
paisley dancing
in the wheat fields

as it carves an arc
the scythe knows not of the grass
or cares of its fate
–
autumn wind
swirling oak leaves
carried aloft

a cavernous void
of fears and uncertainty
filling drop by drop
–
darkening forest
a deep growl
in the distance

patiently waiting
the river of time seems to
slow to a trickle
–
mayflies
in the pond
a snapping turtle

a kestrel soaring
circling on warm updrafts
focused on its prey
–
wings swept
plummeting
earthward

light from the full moon
spills through the open window
and pools on the floor
–
waning
molten silver
moonlight

milky shafts of light
shine on the dust motes hanging
in the evening air
–
slow curls of smoke
faintly glowing
embers

spying Earth from space
a hard reminder of our
insignificance
–
a sand grain
amidst the
multitude
